Creative Empowerment
As of late I have been busy with an old, but re-budding hobby. I have been sewing and it has become something to me it never was in the past; empowering.
I love fashion but hated how I could never find quality dresses in styles I pictured. There is something about being able to turn a flat, loose piece of fabric into a gorgeous dress. I feel this power in my fingertips that tells me I will be spending a lot less money chasing worthless garments. It is invigorating.
With the plethora of vintage patterns I have (and have ordered in the past couple of days), I can make every dress I could possibly imagine. Conveniently, as I mentioned in my last post, the put together, lovely garments of the 50's and 60's are in. Not that I honestly care. I will be wearing these styles regardless of their status on the over rated present day style-ometer. God only knows who decides what is in fashion. Probably a gay, blind man.
My first project was completed in about three days. I used the Simplicity pattern pictured below (the pencil skirt version) but modified it slightly. I made it sleeveless, because the fabric used is a bright peach colored knit. I felt it would be a little overwhelming had I added the sleeves.
Happy sewing to all of you who choose to take on the challenge!
