Yesterday evening I decided I wanted to try a month of no refined sugar. I'm going to start tomorrow and see how far I can get.

I thought about this because I've had a stomach bug for the past couple of days (that's what I've decided it is, but I honestly have no idea), and after I baked some chocolate chip cookies I got sick to my stomach every time I ate one. It made me think about how I wanted to cut down my sugar intake. I don't add sugar to teas or coffee, I prefer my drinks unsweetened. I rarely if ever drink sodas or juices (one I do enjoy when I'm eating out is the blood orange Pellegrino soda). I don't generally devour sweets, but I do not tell myself I cannot eat them. I enjoy baking, and I will eat a bit of what I make. Other than the occasional homemade dessert or dessert purchased outside of the house, my kitchen is not home to any processed sweet food so I don't think this transition won't be too difficult. Meaning, I don't have to rade my refrigerator/pantry/freezer to purge packages of processed junk food. I honestly can't think of a single thing that fits that description (other than some old marshmallows lying in a cupboard somewhere from a batch of rice crispy treats I made for a party, some time ago).

So, this means I won't be posting any cakes of the week as long as I stay on board with this plan. But I was thinking of switching it up and doing a savory dish of the week instead. We're not huge meat eaters (but we're not vegetarians either), so maybe I could share some of the vegetable dishes we cook around here. Although I find those dishes to be very boring, (photography wise) since they generally tend to be green, ha!

Here's to a sugar free month.
